About Pitra Dosha Nivarana Shanti

Pitra Dosha Nivarana Shanti is the prescribed Vedic remedy for Pitra Dosha, the karmic affliction believed to arise when ancestors (pitrus) are dissatisfied due to incomplete funeral rites, missed shraddhas, or unresolved family karma. Astrologically identified by Sun-Rahu or Sun-Saturn conjunctions in the 9th house, persistent Pitra Dosha manifests as marriage delays, childbirth obstacles, chronic family disputes, and career stagnation. This elaborate shanti combines Tarpana, Shraddha, Pitra Homa, and Rudra-Vishnu propitiation to bring peace to the ancestors and lift the dosha from the living family.

📅 When to perform

Most auspicious during Pitru Paksha (the 16-day fortnight in Bhadrapada Krishna Paksha, typically September). Amavasya days, especially Mahalaya Amavasya, are ideal. Also performed on death-anniversary (shraddha) tithis, Somvati Amavasya, and during annual Tarpana periods.

Should it be done only during Pitru Paksha?

Pitru Paksha is most potent, but Pitra Dosha Nivarana can be done anytime, especially on death-anniversary (shraddha) tithis, amavasya days, and Somvati Amavasya.

Who in the family should perform it, eldest son or anyone?

Traditionally the eldest son performs pitra rituals. If the eldest is unavailable, any son, or in their absence, any qualified family member can perform it. Grandsons are also eligible.
