Shasti Poorti Shanti, also called Shashtiabdapoorthi or Ugra Ratha Shanti, celebrates the completion of 60 years of age, marking one full Jupiter-Saturn cycle in Vedic time-reckoning. It is among the grandest Hindu samskaras, combining astrological pacification with renewal of the couple's wedding vows (Punar Vivaha). According to the Dharmashastra, reaching 60 is a divine milestone deserving a full-day ceremony, Ayushya Homa for further longevity, Navagraha Shanti, Mangalya Dharanam renewal, and community blessings. A highlight event for any South and North Indian family in Bangalore.

📅 When to perform

Performed when the individual completes 60 solar years, but the date is calculated using the lunar nakshatra-tithi of the birth. The 60th year in Shashtiabdapoorthi begins the entry into "Pramaadi" or "Raudri" year cycle; our pandit calculates the precise muhurtam based on your birth nakshatra and tithi. Morning to afternoon of an auspicious Thursday, Friday, or Sunday is ideal.

South Indian Shasti Poorti centers on Ugra Ratha Shanti Homa, Navagraha Shanti, Ayushya Homa, and Punar Vivaha ceremony where the couple is dressed as bride and groom. Frequently asked questions

My father turned 60 on the Gregorian date, is that the day for the puja?

Not necessarily. Shasti Poorti is calculated by the lunar nakshatra / tithi of birth, not the Gregorian solar date. The two may differ by weeks or months. Our pandit will calculate the exact day.

What if one spouse has passed away?

The Punar Vivaha portion is omitted and replaced with a Brihaspati / Vishnu-Lakshmi Puja. Ayushya Homa and Navagraha Shanti are still performed with full benefit.

Can it be combined with a 60th birthday party?

Absolutely, this is the norm. The ritual runs in the morning / afternoon, followed by the celebratory lunch / dinner with family and friends. We coordinate timing with your event planner.

How is this different from Sandhi Shanti?

Sandhi Shanti covers both 60th and 70th birthdays generically. Shasti Poorti is specifically the dedicated 60th ritual, with the full Ugra Ratha Shanti and Punar Vivaha, more elaborate than the combined Sandhi Shanti.
