About Parayana (Sacred Recitations)

Parayana is the disciplined, sequential recitation of a sacred text from start to finish, typically performed over 1, 3, 7, or 9 days. Gopuja arranges Bhagavad Gita Parayana (1 day, 700 verses), Valmiki Ramayana Parayana (9 days), Srimad Bhagavata Saptaha (7 days, 18000 verses), Devi Mahatmya / Durga Saptashati Parayana (1–9 days), Vishnu Sahasranama Parayana, Sundarakanda Parayana, and any other traditional paath. Hosted at your home with 1 or more qualified pandits, ideal for shraddhas, house sanctification, punya-anushthana, or before major life events.

📅 When to perform

Bhagavata Saptaha is often done in Shravana, Karthika, or Vaishakha. Ramayana Parayana during Chaitra Navaratri or Ramayana Masa (in Kerala tradition). Devi Mahatmya during Sharad Navaratri. Vishnu Sahasranama monthly on Ekadashi. Customise based on your gotra tradition and family need.

South Indian tradition is especially known for Bhagavata Saptaha (Tirunelveli / Udupi style) with an Acharya expounding each sarga, Vishnu Sahasranama Parayana (Friday after Ekadashi), and Valmiki Ramayana Parayana. Daily kirtan, bhajans, and acharya-pravachan are part of the immersion.

How much space is needed at home for Bhagavata Saptaha?

A dedicated puja room or living room of approximately 10×12 feet where the Vyasa-gadi is set up and not disturbed for the 7 days. We set up and clean daily.

Can it be done as a mini-parayana on weekends?

Yes, Ramayana Parayana can be spread over 5 weekend days, or Bhagavata Saptaha over 7 evenings. We accommodate working families' schedules.
